The Face of Homelessness

Sarah is a first grader in Fayette County. She and her mom and dad don't have a place to stay. Sarah doesn't know if they will sleep at a friend's house or in their car tonight.

But Sarah isn't alone.

In the 2017-2018 school year, 854 Fayette County Public Schools students experienced homelessness.

Since 2016, participants from faith communities, the business community and government officials have helped raised $146,000 which has allowed families of Fayette County Public School students to be housed through the Give Kids A Home program.

Fayette County Public Schools, along with other organizations in Fayette County are working to support the children in our school system who need our help, but they can't do it alone. We need your support to help make sure all students and children in our community have a place to live.

24 Hour
Homeless Experience

24 hours. 1 blanket.
2 sandwiches. 2 bottles of water.

That's it.

Leaders from faith communities, the business community and government officials have joined the effort to raise awareness and funds by participating in the 24 Hour Homeless Experience on November 1-2, 2018. By participating in the 24 Hour Homeless Experience, these leaders will experience the reality of the streets, share these experiences and create awareness and support for sheltering our children during the Winter of 2018 and giving the families an opportunity to be placed in permanent housing. Community Action Council in partnership with other social service agencies will facilitate the housing program.

For $700/mo a family will be sheltered while Community Action Council works alongside the families, identifying and addressing their needs or barriers to help them acquire permanent housing. The total cost to help a family get on the path toward permanent housing and self-sufficiency is $988/mo. This is a simple program: allowing our community to understand the need and respond with any amount they can give to the fund; all donations will be tax deductible. This effort will give our community leaders an opportunity to shine light on a crisis here in Lexington and respond to this critical need to GIVE OUR KIDS A HOME FOR THE WINTER OF 2018!

Stay tuned for media coverage, social media features and more. Together, we can make a big change in the lives of children in Fayette County!

FCPS will have continuing events throughout the year to support Give Kids a Home.
